Tesla is encountering growing challenges with the sales of its highly anticipated Cybertruck, particularly the Foundation Series, which has sparked discussions among fans and potential buyers.
Despite having over a million reservations for the eco-friendly vehicle, Tesla has managed to sell only between 15,000 and 20,000 units, according to a recent report by Electrek.
The steep price of the Foundation Series Cybertruck, which is currently priced just over $100,000, is a significant factor in the sluggish sales.
Originally, the single-motor version of the electric truck was priced around $39,000, but the base price has since risen to $79,990, leaving many early reservation holders disappointed.
“It’s not too surprising,” Electrek commented on the situation, noting that the high price point may be deterring potential buyers. Many Tesla enthusiasts who had reserved the vehicle years ago expressed their reluctance to move forward with the purchase, citing the price increase as a major concern.
One reservation holder shared their frustration, saying, “I reserved several years ago, and I don’t have the type of disposable income to spend $120k for a truck that was supposed to be $49k. If I was a big name in the music business or played in the NBA, maybe I’d feel differently.”
Another echoed similar sentiments, stating, “I have had a reservation since day one, but will likely never buy. I have been very disappointed with the price and range, but overall, I just don’t think it’s a practical vehicle.”
As Tesla continues to navigate these challenges, the company has taken steps to make its other models more affordable.
Earlier this year, Tesla lowered the prices of several popular models, making them more accessible to families looking to switch to electric vehicles. With lower maintenance costs and reduced emissions, EVs offer savings over traditional gas-powered cars.
