Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi has made the six-player August English Premier League player of the month shortlist as revealed on Thursday September 7.
The Super Eagles player started the 2023/2024 season in red hot form for Nottingham Forest, scoring three goals in as many Premier League outings in August, before registering an assist for Anthony Elanga in Saturday’s 1-0 away win at Chelsea.
Taiwo Awoniyi began the season by coming off the bench to score a late consolation against Arsenal, before scoring three minutes into Forest’s 2-1 home win over Sheffield United.
The striker also scored early on in Forest’s dramatic defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford to end the month of August 2023.
His last appearance before the International break was vs Chelsea FC, the forward assisted Elanga’s match winner as Forest stunned the Blues at Stamford Bridge.
Voting closes at 12pm on Monday 11 September, with the winner to be announced on Friday 15 September at 11am.
Awoniyi will battle for the award with Jarrod Bowen ( West Ham), Rodri (Manchester City, Kaoru Mitoma (Brighton), Bryan Mbuemo (Brentford), James Maddison (Tottenham Hotspur).
The striker is currently in camp with the Super Eagles of Nigeria as they prepare for the AFCON qualification game vs Sao Tome and Principe on Sunday September 10.
