Suspected Kidnapper Nabbed At Izom Cattle Market After Victim’s Identification.

A suspected kidnapper was apprehended at the Izom Cattle Market in Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State, following a dramatic identification by one of his victims in broad daylight. The arrest, which took place on Saturday, 21 June 2025, at approximately 4:00 pm, marks a significant breakthrough in efforts to curb kidnapping in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and its environs.

According to reports, the suspect was linked to the abduction of two herders and a driver near Daku community in Gwagwalada Area Council, FCT, on 9 June 2025. The victims had been returning from the Izom Cattle Market, where they had sold their cows, when they were ambushed and kidnapped. The perpetrators reportedly demanded and received a ransom of N15 million before releasing the victims.

The arrest occurred when one of the freed victims spotted the suspect, dressed neatly in a kaftan, at the same cattle market while he was attempting to purchase items. The victim promptly alerted members of a local vigilante group, who swiftly apprehended the suspect. Ishaku Daniel, a member of the vigilante group, confirmed the incident, stating that the victim’s quick action and recognition were crucial to the suspect’s capture.

The FCT Police Command has since taken the suspect into custody, with investigations ongoing to uncover the full extent of his involvement in the kidnapping and any potential accomplices. The police have commended the vigilance of the community and the victim’s courage, noting that such cooperation is vital in tackling criminality in the region.

This arrest comes amid heightened efforts by security operatives to address the rising incidents of kidnapping in Nigeria’s capital and surrounding areas. The FCT Police, in collaboration with other security agencies, have intensified raids on known criminal hideouts, leading to several arrests in recent months. The public has been urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to aid in maintaining safety and security.
