Super Falcons Retain Top Spot in Africa, 36th Globally in Latest FIFA Women’s Rankings.
Nigeria’s Super Falcons have retained their position as the 36th best women’s football team in the world, according to the latest FIFA rankings released on Friday. Despite a challenging campaign at the 2024 Olympic Games, where they were defeated in all three group stage matches by Brazil, Spain, and Japan, the Super Falcons continue to hold the number one spot in Africa.
The team’s disappointing Olympic performance did not impact their continental dominance, as they remain the leading side in Africa. Globally, however, the rankings saw some shifts. The United States of America reclaimed the top spot after winning the gold medal in the women’s football event at the Olympics. Meanwhile, Spain, the reigning world champions, dropped to third place after finishing fourth in the Olympic tournament.
The next update to the FIFA Women’s World Ranking is scheduled for release on December 20, 2024, where the Super Falcons and other teams will look to either consolidate or improve their positions.
