Sports Minister Brands Team Nigeria’s Paris 2024 Olympics Performance a ‘Disaster’.
Nigeria’s Sports Minister, John Enoh, has openly criticised Team Nigeria’s performance at the Paris 2024 Olympics, describing it as a “disaster” after the nation failed to secure any medals throughout the games.
The disappointment was compounded by key setbacks, including the disqualification of the men’s 4x400m relay team and the surprising exit of Tobi Amusan, the reigning world champion, who failed to reach the final in the 100m hurdles.
Minister Enoh expressed his deep dissatisfaction and vowed to prevent such outcomes in future international competitions. He emphasised the urgent need for reform within the leadership of Nigeria’s sports federations, aiming to revitalise the country’s sports programmes and ensure that Nigeria can compete more effectively on the global stage.
This marks a significant moment for Nigerian sports, as stakeholders now look to what changes might come from the Minister’s promise of reform, with the hope of returning the nation to its former Olympic glory.
