2024 IBB Captain’s Cup Golf Tournament to Kickoff In style
The 2024 IBB International Golf and Country Club Captain’s Cup tournament is set to welcome approximately 500 amateur golfers, gathering to honor the club’s captain, Dr. Banjo Obaleye, following his successful tenure of 12 months, as reported by BSNSports
Kicking off the week-long event was the Staff and Caddies Kitty on Monday, followed by the Pros tournament on Tuesday.
Speaking at the clubhouse, Chairman of the Planning Committee, Senate Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, shared details of the tournament schedule.
The Men and Ladies Veterans will compete on Thursday, leading up to the pinnacle of the event on Saturday. This final day will see men with Handicaps ranging from Zero to Nine point Eight and Ladies with Handicaps from Fourteen point five to twenty-three point seven vie for the prestigious Cup.
“This tournament is meticulously crafted to honor the achievements of Dr. Banjo Obaleye, a remarkable Sportsman, Astute Administrator, and Entrepreneur, who has led the club exceptionally well over the past 12 months,” remarked Senator Ajibola Basiru.
He further mentioned that the Sports Minister, Senator John Owah Enoh, representing Mr. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will inaugurate the tournament with the ceremonial tee-off on Saturday. Several other dignitaries have also pledged their participation or sponsorship, adding to the celebratory atmosphere.
In a commendation speech to the planning committee, outgoing Club Captain Dr. Banjo Obaleye disclosed plans for an endowment fund established by his Exco. This fund aims to support young golfers aged nine to seventeen in realizing their golfing aspirations.
“We have proposed an initial sum of 10 million Naira for the endowment fund and call upon corporate organizations to contribute, ensuring talented young golfers receive the support they need,” Obaleye emphasized.
The players will utilize Friday as a practice day, leading up to the ceremonial tee-off early Saturday morning, marking the culmination of a week filled with golfing excellence and celebration.
