The Southern Nigeria Youth Movement has asked Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, to redirect his attention towards addressing the escalating insecurity within the state instead of embarking on frequent international trips.
In a statement issued by its President, Comrade Ikechukwu Nnamdi Okeke, the Southern Nigeria Youth Movement highlighted the paradox of seeking foreign investment in a state plagued by insecurity, which poses significant risks to both locals and potential investors alike.
The group stated the fundamental responsibility of any responsible government to safeguard the lives and property of its citizens, stating that Governor Lawal’s absence from the state exacerbates the challenges faced by the people of Zamfara.
“With Zamfara experiencing daily turmoil, characterized by killings, kidnappings, and the displacement of innocent civilians by marauding bandits, it is imperative that Governor Lawal refocuses his efforts on providing tangible security measures,” stated Comrade Okeke.
The statement further lamented the recent spate of attacks in Zamfara, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan, where worshippers have fallen victim to terrorist violence during their religious observances.
“While the governor is abroad, Zamfara’s 14 Local Government Areas continue to suffer relentless assaults by criminal elements, prompting the state government to enforce border restrictions in response to the resurgence of terrorist activities,” the statement read.
The Southern Nigeria Youth Movement urged elected officials to honor the trust bestowed upon them by the electorate and prioritize the welfare and security of citizens above all else.
