Bentancur Apologizes to Teammate Son for Slur Remarks, Team United Ahead of Pre-Season.
Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-min has addressed the recent controversy involving teammate Rodrigo Bentancur, affirming their unity and readiness for the upcoming season.
In an interview on Canal 10’s show “Por La Camiseta”, Bentancur made an inappropriate comment when host Rafa Cotelo asked for a Spurs player’s shirt. The Uruguay international replied, “Sonny’s? It could be Sonny’s cousin too as they all look the same.” The remark was widely criticised as a racial slur.
Following the incident, Bentancur apologised to Son, acknowledging his mistake. Son has since spoken out to clarify the situation and emphasise their strong relationship.
“I’ve spoken with Rodrigo Bentancur. He made a mistake, he knows this and has apologised,” Son stated. “Lolo would not mean to ever intentionally say something offensive. We are brothers and nothing has changed at all.”
Son further stressed the team’s solidarity and their focus on the future. “We’re past this, we’re united, and we will be back together in pre-season to fight for our club as one.”
The swift resolution and public display of unity between the two players highlight their professionalism and commitment to maintaining a positive team environment. Fans can look forward to seeing the squad’s strengthened camaraderie as they prepare for the new season.
