Social media users have recently unearthed old tweets and comments from Reno Omokri, a controversial social media influencer, in which he harshly criticised President Bola Tinubu.
Omokri, who was a staunch supporter of Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election, has faced backlash after seemingly changing his stance when Atiku’s path to victory became uncertain.
Before distancing himself from Atiku’s camp, Omokri had made several scathing remarks about Tinubu, questioning both his personal hygiene and the authenticity of his credentials. These posts, shared on his X handle (formerly Twitter), have resurfaced after Omokri criticised a piece on the newly acquired presidential aircraft.
The Daily Trust, which conducted checks and gathered expert opinions on the story, noted that Air Force One, the aircraft used by the U.S. president, is 34 years old and has served six different presidents. Omokri, now a vocal defender of Tinubu, found the report offensive and accused the Daily Trust of targeting Tinubu because of his Southern roots.
However, instead of gaining support, Omokri has been widely criticised on social media. Many users expressed confusion over his sudden shift from being a fierce critic of Tinubu to becoming one of his staunchest defenders. One user, Adeniyi Segun (@adeniyisegun114), highlighted Omokri’s contradictory behaviour by sharing some of his old posts attacking Tinubu, calling him a “shameless fellow.”
