Sixteen UNILAG Students Awarded Prestigious PMAF Scholarships.

On 17 July 2025, sixteen indigent students at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) were celebrated as recipients of the Professor Mike Adebamowo Foundation (PMAF) Scholarship Awards, a generous initiative totalling N8,925,000. The ceremony, held at the university’s campus in Akoka, Lagos, highlighted the foundation’s commitment to supporting academic excellence and easing financial burdens for deserving students.

The PMAF Scholarship, established to honour the legacy of Professor Mike Adebamowo, a distinguished academic, targets students who demonstrate both financial need and outstanding academic potential. This year’s awards, presented at a heartfelt event, were met with gratitude from the beneficiaries, who represent various faculties and academic years at UNILAG. The funds are intended to cover tuition, accommodation, and other essential expenses, enabling the students to focus on their studies without financial strain.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, praised the foundation for its unwavering support, noting that the scholarships align with UNILAG’s mission to foster a conducive environment for learning and research. “These awards not only provide financial relief but also inspire our students to strive for excellence,” she said during the ceremony. The Vice-Chancellor also commended the PMAF for its role in shaping the future of Nigeria’s youth.

The selection process for the scholarships was rigorous, prioritising students with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.0 and a demonstrated need for financial assistance. The transparency and merit-based approach of the PMAF initiative were highlighted by the foundation’s representatives, who expressed pride in supporting the next generation of leaders. This year’s recipients, hailing from diverse regions including Lagos, Delta, and Kwara, reflect the programme’s commitment to inclusivity.

The PMAF Scholarship Awards add to UNILAG’s rich history of facilitating student success through endowments and partnerships. Since 2006, the university has distributed over N248 million in scholarships to more than 6,000 students, with the PMAF initiative being a significant contributor. This latest round of awards underscores the university’s role as a beacon of academic excellence and its dedication to empowering students to achieve their full potential.

As the beneficiaries expressed their gratitude, many shared their aspirations to contribute meaningfully to society, echoing the foundation’s vision of fostering impactful change. With the support of initiatives like the PMAF Scholarship, UNILAG continues to produce graduates who are poised to shape Nigeria’s future.
