Simon Ekpa, a prominent Biafra agitator and self-declared Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government In-Exile, has asserted that he has served the interests of Ndigbo and their quest for self-rule better than anyone else.
Ekpa, who led the Igbo community in Finland from 2015 to 2019, made these claims in a statement released on Sunday via his X account.
During his tenure as Chairman of Igbo Union Finland, Ekpa said he successfully secured financial support for the Igbo community from the Finnish government, including cultural stipends.
He also highlighted his role in facilitating the Union’s inclusion in the Finnish 100-year centenary celebration, an achievement he claims was unprecedented under his leadership.
“I have served Ndigbo better than anyone could,” Ekpa stated. “During my time as Chairman of Igbo Union Finland, I was the only one who secured financial support from the Finnish government through cultural stipends and opened many doors for Igbo Union Finland.”
Ekpa noted that despite facing resistance and a lack of financial contributions from some members, his leadership was marked by significant successes. He claimed that under his watch, the Union celebrated the Iriji festival without needing to raise funds from members, a feat not replicated since his departure.
Ekpa also mentioned that even though he supported every chairman before him, he did not receive the same level of support during his tenure. Nevertheless, he asserted that his leadership was the most successful, and criticised the current leadership for being unable to organise events like the Iriji festival.
