Juventus Dominate Como 3-0 in Thiago Motta’s Managerial Debut
Juventus started their Serie A campaign with an emphatic 3-0 victory over newly promoted Como, marking Thiago Motta’s first competitive game in charge of the Turin giants.
Belgian forward Samuel Mbangula and American winger Timothy Weah shone in a dominant first-half display. Mbangula, 20, made an impressive debut by opening the scoring with a powerful strike from the edge of the box. Weah followed up with a well-taken goal, converting a cross from Kenan Yildiz to double the lead before the break.
Andrea Cambiaso rounded off the performance with a brilliant curled effort in stoppage time, sealing a comprehensive win for the Old Lady. This result comes as a statement of intent from Juventus, who are aiming for their first Serie A title in four years following the departure of Massimiliano Allegri in May.
On the other side, Cesc Fàbregas, who recently took over as manager of Como after serving as an assistant during their promotion last season, faced a tough introduction to top-flight football. Como, returning to Serie A after a 21-year absence, found the step up in class difficult to handle.
Juventus will look to maintain their momentum when they visit Verona on 26 August, while Como will seek to bounce back as they travel to Cagliari.
