Senate President Godswill Akpabio has unveiled the Senate Standing Committees, with various Senators assigned to lead and oversee different key sectors of the government.
The committees are part of the Ninth Senate’s effort to effectively manage legislative oversight and ensure the smooth functioning of governmental activities.
Among those appointed are notable figures such as the President of the Ninth Senate, Ahmad Lawan, who will head the Defence committee. Aminu Tambuwal, former governor of Sokoto State, has been designated to lead the Housing committee, while Adams Oshiomhole, former governor of Edo State, will chair the Interior committee.
Several other Senators have been selected to head different committees, including Godiya Akwashiki (Airforce), Buhari Abdul-Fata (Aviation), Osita Izunaso (Capital Market), and Cyril Fasuyi (Establishment). Additionally, Seriake Dickson will head the Ecology/Climate Change committee, Jide Ipisagba will lead the Petroleum Downstream committee, and Aliyu Wadada has been appointed to chair the Public Account committee.
Furthermore, newly appointed committee chairmen include Isa Jubril (Customs), Elisha Abbo (Culture and Tourism), Victor Umeh (Diaspora), Lawal Usman (Education), and Akintunde Yunus (Environment). Ibrahim Bomai will oversee the FCT committee, while Sani Abubakar and Banigo Harry will lead the Foreign Affairs and Health committees, respectively.
Abubakar Yari will take charge of the Water Resources committee, Enyinaya Abaribe will head the Power committee, and Aliyu Wamakko will be responsible for the Local and Foreign Debts committee. Several other Senators have also been appointed to chair various committees, covering areas such as land transport, navy, Niger Delta, judiciary, youths and sports, women affairs, privatization, agriculture, communications, and NDDC.
These appointments reflect the Senate’s commitment to effective governance and legislative oversight across a diverse range of crucial sectors.
