Security Operatives Dislodge Suspected IPOB Members In Imo.

A combined team of security operatives has successfully raided criminal hideouts and dislodged suspected members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Aku, located in the Okigwe Council Area of Imo State.

Brigadier-General Usman Lawal, Commander of the 34 Artillery Brigade, Nigerian Army, Obinze, Owerri, confirmed this development while addressing journalists in Aku on Tuesday.

The operation, which began on Friday, 29 November, involved a joint effort by the military, police, Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). The raid was conducted based on credible intelligence aimed at neutralising the activities of suspected IPOB members in the area.

Brigadier-General Lawal commended the success of the operation, stating, “As a result of the operation, peace has started to return to the area. We urge the people of Aku to cooperate with security operatives by providing credible and helpful information.”

He also disclosed that a notorious IPOB commander, identified as Ifeanyi Okorienta, and his gang had been displaced. Residents were assured that they could return to their homes to celebrate the upcoming Yuletide in safety.

Imo State Commissioner of Police, Mr Aboki Danjuma, reiterated the commitment of the police to work in synergy with other security agencies to sustain peace in the region.

Adding to the assurance, retired General Joseph Chima, Special Adviser on Security Matters to Governor Hope Uzodinma, reaffirmed the government’s dedication to supporting security operations with adequate logistics and resources.

The clearance operation has been widely acknowledged as a significant step towards restoring normalcy and ensuring a peaceful festive season for the residents of Aku and surrounding areas.
