Terrorists Occupy Nigeria’s Largest Military Training Camp, Lawmaker Raises Alarm.
Reports have emerged that terrorists have taken control of Nigeria’s largest military training camp, the Nagwamase Military Cantonment, located in Kontagora, Niger State. The news was disclosed on Tuesday during a plenary session by Abdullahi Isah, a member of the Niger State House of Assembly representing Kontagora II State Constituency.
According to Isah, these armed criminals have not only seized the camp but also displaced around 23 farming communities within the surrounding areas. Describing the severity of the situation, he stated that the terrorists have established at least eight camps in and around the training ground, creating a stronghold within a military zone that spans the Kontagora and Mariga local government areas.
“This military camp is now effectively taken over by terrorists,” Isah remarked, “who have set up numerous camps within the area, creating a security crisis for communities in both Kontagora and Mariga.”
Following a lengthy debate on the issue, the Assembly urged the Niger State Government to collaborate with military authorities to reclaim the camp and ensure the safe return of displaced communities. Lawmakers stressed that swift action is crucial to restore security and stability to the region, which has been increasingly impacted by the activities of these armed groups.
This development highlights the urgent need for reinforced security in Niger State, where the safety of residents and strategic facilities has become a growing concern.
