In a press statement, Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken expressed the United States’ welcome for the successful deal securing the release of 50 hostages, including American citizens, held by Hamas since the October 7th attack on Israel.
Blinken conveyed gratitude for the end of the ordeal these individuals faced and expressed relief that they would soon be reunited with their families.
The Secretary of State credited the outcome to tireless diplomacy and relentless efforts across the Department of State and the broader U.S. government. He extended appreciation to Egypt and Qatar for their leadership and ongoing partnership in facilitating the release. Additionally, Blinken thanked the government of Israel for supporting a humanitarian pause to ensure the safe transfer of hostages and to provide additional humanitarian assistance to Palestinian civilians in Gaza.
While acknowledging the progress made with this deal, Blinken emphasized the U.S. commitment to ensuring the release of every hostage as long as Hamas continues to hold individuals in Gaza. The safety and security of Americans overseas remain a top priority, and efforts will persist to secure the release and swift reunification of all hostages with their families.
