"The common law offence of sodomy is declared unconstitutional and invalid," the high court in the capital, Windhoek, wrote in its verdict. It also declared unconstitutional the offence of "unnatural sexual offences". (Photo by Hildegard Titus / AFP)

In observance of Pride Month, Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken will host a convening and reception to honor leaders championing LGBTQI+ equality within the U.S. government and globally.

The events are scheduled for Thursday, June 27, at the Department of State.

The convening, titled “Convening on U.S. Foreign Policy: National Security, Inclusive Development, and the Human Rights of LGBTQI+ Persons,” will start at 1:00 p.m. EDT in the Burns Auditorium. This will be followed by a reception with remarks at 6:00 p.m. EDT in the Benjamin Franklin Room. Both events will be accessible to pre-registered press and live-streamed on the Department’s homepage and YouTube channel.

Key figures addressing the convening include U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield and U.S. Trade Representative Ambassador Katherine Tai.

Special Envoy Jessica Stern will deliver remarks at both events and announce the release of the Annual Progress Report on the Implementation of the Presidential Memorandum on Advancing the Human Rights of LGBTQI+ Persons Around the World.
