Nigerian singer Ruger has expressed frustration over the state of the music industry, where funding outweighs artistic talent.

In a recent X post, Ruger lamented that artists with financial resources to promote their work are prioritized over talented ones.

“The music scene has been hurting me coz no matter how shit an artist is, once there’s money for hype, Otilo,” Ruger wrote.

Ruger’s sentiments echo concerns shared by fellow artist BNXN, highlighting the struggle talented artists face in gaining recognition.

The Nigerian music industry’s current state has sparked debate in 2024, with commentators noting a decline in breakthrough stars and quality hits.

Ruger also credited his charismatic stage presence for his success, saying: “I don’t come on stage to sing… I bring my whole personality on stage; it’s not a joke.”
