Rivers Angels Secure Ninth Federation Cup Title with Victory Over Naija Ratels.
Multiple-time Federation Cup winners, Rivers Angels, have added a ninth laurel to their collection after edging out first-time finalists Naija Ratels in a nervy 1-0 match at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena.
This triumphant conquest marks the end of head coach Whyte Ogbonda’s trophyless managerial run following an agonising 2023/24 NWFL season where they missed the crown by just one point to Edo Queens.
The match, attended by numerous dignitaries from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), lived up to expectations as both sides cautiously exchanged strings of passes while keeping a watchful eye on one another.
The decisive moment came just minutes before the end of the first half when Andy Okpe converted a penalty after a Naija Ratels defender handled the ball. This goal was enough for Rivers Angels to secure the win in front of a roaring crowd.
In the second half, Naija Ratels FC pressed harder for an equaliser, but a resilient Rivers Angels defence held firm, securing their place as nine-time champions.
