Restructuring Nigeria: I Won’t Rush To Restructure, Tinubu Reaffirms Commitment

In a significant move towards addressing the longstanding call for restructuring in Nigeria, President Bola Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s dedication to implementing necessary reforms.

This affirmation came during a visit to Pa Reuben Fasoranti, the National Leader of Afenifere, a prominent Yoruba socio-political organisation, in Akure, Ondo State.

Following a closed-door meeting with key leaders of Afenifere, Tinubu’s stance on restructuring was conveyed by Mr. Jare Ajayi, the National Publicity Secretary of the group.

Ajayi quoted Tinubu as emphasising the importance of laying a solid foundation before initiating restructuring, cautioning against hasty implementation that could lead to instability. Tinubu assured Nigerians of his commitment to restructuring but stressed the necessity of establishing robust structures first.

Acknowledging the challenges facing Nigerians, Tinubu empathised with the populace, expressing confidence that the government’s policies would offer viable solutions. He urged Nigerians to prioritise local food production to reduce dependence on imported goods.

In response, Pa Fasoranti commended Tinubu’s performance and urged him to govern fairly and courageously. He highlighted the Yoruba people’s long-standing advocacy for restructuring and emphasised the need for constitutional reforms to achieve true federalism. Fasoranti stressed the importance of regional autonomy and the equitable distribution of resources to address pressing issues, including population growth and migration.

Earlier in the day, Tinubu paid tribute to the late former governor of Ondo State, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, describing him as a fearless defender of truth. Tinubu’s visit to Akeredolu’s family and his participation in the mourning process underscored his respect for the departed leader.

In response, Mrs. Akeredolu expressed gratitude to Tinubu for his condolence visit, recognising his close relationship with her late husband. Tinubu’s presence was seen as a significant gesture of support during a difficult time for the family.

Tinubu’s reaffirmation of his commitment to restructuring Nigeria signals a continued focus on addressing key issues facing the nation, with an emphasis on laying a solid foundation for lasting change.
