In the wake of a recent social media storm, Bidemi Olaoba, a celebrated gospel artist, issued a heartfelt apology to white garment churches, seeking to amend any misunderstandings sparked by a video that stirred controversy online.
During a televised interview on ‘Confession Box with PLA’ hosted by Pastor Leke Adeboye, Olaoba expressed his reluctance to perform in churches where incense and perfumes are used, inadvertently causing uproar within the white garment church community.
In his public apology, Olaoba underscores his unwavering belief in the universal message of the gospel and extends regrets for any unintended offence resulting from his previous statements.
He clarifies that the church mentioned in the controversial video was not a white garment church, contrary to misconceptions.
Emphasising the unity of the body of Christ, Olaoba urges viewers to watch the full video on YouTube to grasp the context accurately, urging them to disregard any insinuations of division within the church.
Furthermore, Olaoba highlights his deep connections with the Celestial Church of Christ, affirming his respect for the body of Christ and acknowledging his participation in significant events organised by the CCC, such as the Lully Concert.
However, his remarks have not been without consequences, as stakeholders within the Celestial Church of Christ Worldwide swiftly condemned his comments. Some youths of the church have even called for members to unfollow Olaoba on social media platforms.
Reacting to the controversy, various individuals within the white garment church community expressed their disappointment with Olaoba’s statements, with some questioning the inclusion of non-Celestial singers in their church events.
Despite the backlash, Olaoba remains committed to serving as a vessel for praise and unity within the body of Christ, urging the public to understand the full context of his remarks and reaffirming his respect for all denominations within the Christian faith.
