Remo Stars Remain Resolute Despite Narrow Defeat to Kwara United
Despite suffering a narrow defeat last weekend, Daniel Ogunmodede, the head coach of Nigeria Premier Football League side Remo Stars, remains undeterred and committed to fighting until the end of the season.
The Sky Blue Boys suffered a 3-2 loss to Kwara United on match day 33 in Ilorin. However, Ogunmodede emphasized the team’s resilience and determination to bounce back stronger.
“We will not give up. We will keep fighting to the end. We knew it wouldn’t be easy, but we’ll learn from our mistakes and come back stronger,” Ogunmodede stated.
Reflecting on the match, Ogunmodede expressed disappointment over not securing the maximum points despite their preparations. “The only disappointment is that we were unable to get the maximum three points. We planned for the win, but unfortunately, we couldn’t get our desired results.”
He acknowledged the challenge of returning to peak performance after an abrupt one-month break. “I understand there is no excuse for failure; if not, I would have been talking about the abrupt break we had for a month. You expect a team to come back and give it their best—it’s impossible. But nevertheless, it was a good fight.”
Ogunmodede highlighted Kwara United’s advantage, attributing their win to early goals and better match fitness due to their continuous play during the holiday break. “Kwara United took advantage of their early goal; you know this is a team who had the luck of playing about two matches during the holidays, which tells of their match fitness. The early goal gave them a lot of confidence. We were struggling; they took advantage again and scored their second goal before the whistle sounded for the second half.”
Despite the setbacks, Remo Stars showed determination in the second half. “We came in the second half and fought hard; we were unlucky and scored an own goal. We wanted to be champions, and we know what it means to be champions—as champions, you don’t give up. So we fought. We got two consoling goals, but it wasn’t enough,” Ogunmodede explained.
As the season progresses, Remo Stars remain focused on their goal, with Ogunmodede’s leadership driving the team’s perseverance and commitment to success.
