Rabiu Ali Confident In Super Eagles B Team’s CHAN Qualification.
Veteran midfielder Rabiu Ali has expressed confidence in the Super Eagles B team’s chances of securing a spot in the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN). Speaking ahead of their crucial qualifier against Ghana, the Kano Pillars captain emphasised his determination to contribute to the team’s success.
Ali, who was recently called up to the national squad for the qualifiers, described his invitation as an honour and a testament to his commitment to the game. “It’s a great honour to be invited again,” he told *Punch*. “This year, I wasn’t so sure I would get a call-up because it all depends on the coaching staff, but I remained hopeful.”
Reflecting on his past experiences with the Super Eagles B team, Ali highlighted his contributions to previous CHAN tournaments. “I’ve been called to the team twice – once in South Africa, where we won the bronze medal, and another in Morocco, where we came second as Morocco lifted the trophy,” he noted.
Now, the experienced midfielder is setting his sights on not just qualifying but also winning the championship for Nigeria. “I’m very optimistic that this year, by the special grace of God, we will deliver the qualifying ticket and also bring home the trophy for Nigeria,” he said with determination.
The Super Eagles B team faces a challenging encounter against Ghana, but with the leadership and experience of players like Rabiu Ali, hopes are high for a successful campaign.
The CHAN tournament, exclusively for players competing in their domestic leagues, is a vital platform for showcasing local talent across Africa. Nigeria aims to make a strong statement by qualifying and competing for the ultimate prize.
