President Bola Tinubu Appoints New ICPC Leadership Team Pending Senate Confirmation

In a demonstration of his authority vested in Section 3(6) of the Corrupt Practises and Other Related Offences Act, 2000, and in line with the Renewed Hope mandate aimed at revitalising Nigeria’s fight against corruption and reforming key institutions, President Bola Tinubu has given his approval for the appointment of a fresh management team for the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). These appointments are pending Senate confirmation.

The newly appointed officials are:

  1. Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu – Chairman / Chief Executive Officer, ICPC
  2. Mr. Clifford Okwudiri Oparaodu – Secretary to the Commission, ICPC

The current Chairman of ICPC has requested and been granted pre-end of tenure leave, commencing on November 4, 2023, ahead of the conclusion of his tenure on February 3, 2024. The new Chairman’s confirmation will be sought from the Nigerian Senate, as is customary.

The role of the Secretary to the Commission, however, does not necessitate Senate confirmation, and, accordingly, the appointment of Mr. Clifford Okwudiri Oparaodu as Secretary of the Commission is effective immediately.

Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, who holds Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate degrees in Law, has been actively involved in substantial reforms as the Attorney General of Jigawa State since September 2019. He was also designated as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria-designate in October 2023.

Mr. Clifford Okwudiri Oparaodu, a legal practitioner with over three decades of experience, has notably served in the public service, including positions as a Member of the Rivers State Judicial Service Commission and Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of Port Harcourt City Local Government Council.

President Tinubu has urged the new ICPC management team to maintain the highest standards of integrity as they carry out their duties impartially, free from any form of bias, in addressing all matters within their purview.
