Premier League affirms why many refer to it as the best league in the world as Newcastle and Luton Town played out a 4:4 draw in a classic 8 goals thriller! As other fixtures likewise filled with bundles of goals (Govima Sport Reports)

Premier League clubs Newcastle and Luton Town played a classic contest as both team showed intent and attacking depth in a game that ended 4:4 on Saturday.

Substitute Harvey Barnes marked his return from a long injury with a goal to rescue a point for Newcastle in an extraordinary eight-goal thriller against Luton.

In a breathless encounter, Sean Longstaff swept the hosts into the lead only for defender Gabriel Osho to head an equaliser off the underside of the bar.

The Hatters, however, were on level terms for just two minutes as Longstaff restored Newcastle’s advantage after Thomas Kaminski parried Anthony Gordon’s attempt into his path.

But Luton were far from done and equalised a second time before half-time, Ross Barkley firing home from five yards after the ball dropped invitingly at his feet following Martin Dubravka’s save to keep out Alfie Doughty.

The visitors went ahead for the first time when skipper Carlton Morris scored from a retaken penalty after a review by the video assistant referee (VAR) ruled Dan Burn had fouled the impressive Chiedozie Ogbene.

It looked all over when Elijah Adebayo made it 4-2 less than two minutes later, but Kieran Trippier’s first goal since August 2022 gave the Magpies hope before Barnes, in his first appearance since 24 September, drilled home to make it 4-4.

In one of the all-time great games of the Premier League era, Jacob Murphy missed a great chance to win it for Newcastle when he blazed over in the 85th minute before Ogbene was denied by Dubravka at the other end in the 98th minute.

Earlier in the first game of the weekend, Tottenham also played out a 2:2 draw against Everton. Richarlison scored a brace for spurs and who have thought they have the 3 points, but Everton rocked them as they scored the equalizer in the 94th minutes to steal a point at the death.

In another encounter, Brighton bounced back from last week’s awful performance against Luton as they beat Crystal Palace 4:1 on Saturday. Goals from Dunk, Hinshelwood, Buananorte and Joao Pedro was enough to give the maximum 3 point with Mateta getting the consolation for Palace.

Elsewhere, Relegation threatened Burnley also played out a 2:2 draw against Fulham at turf moore. Fofana the new Chelsea loaner was the hero for Burnley as his brace helped Burnley come from 2 goals down to pick a point against Fulham who had earlier been put ahead with goals from Palhinha and Carvalho.

Meanwhile Aston Villa Thrashed Sheffield United 5:0 to keep their hope of champions League football alive. Unai Emery’s men delivered a five star performance to wallop Sheffield United in their home ground. Aston Villa became the first team since Chelsea in 2011 to score four goals in 30mins as they swept off Sheffield in style.

See how the table looks below following today’s fixtures…..

The EPL continues tomorrow with the game of the week happening between Arsenal and Liverpool in a top of the table clash.
