Iraqi TikTok sensation Ghufran Sawadi, widely known as Umm Fahad, was fatally shot outside her residence in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq.
The incident occurred in the Zayouna area east of Baghdad, where Sawadi fell victim to an unknown assailant’s gunfire on Friday night.
Video footage captured by a surveillance camera depicted the horrifying moment when a gunman, riding a motorcycle, mercilessly opened fire on Sawadi, leading to her untimely demise. Confirming the authenticity of the video, a Baghdad police source revealed the distressing details to CNN.
Promptly responding to the heinous crime, Iraq’s Interior Minister announced the formation of a specialized team to investigate the circumstances surrounding Sawadi’s killing. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, adding to the shock and grief gripping the online community.
Umm Fahad rose to prominence on TikTok, captivating audiences with her vibrant dance routines set to popular music and her distinctive fashion sense. However, her content faced scrutiny from Iraq’s judiciary, resulting in a six-month prison sentence for producing and publishing videos deemed to contain indecent language, violating public morals.
Tragically, Sawadi’s fate mirrors that of another Iraqi TikTok personality, Noor Alsaffar, also known as Noor BM, who met a similar fate in September 2023. Alsaffar’s untimely demise sparked both mourning and controversy, especially amidst Iraq’s increasingly stringent measures against LGBTQ expression.
