Reno Omokri, a socio-political activist and former presidential aide, has made controversial claims about Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party.
In a series of posts on social media platform X, Omokri alleged that Obi does not believe in his party’s official manifesto and is more aligned with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Omokri, who claims to have played a role in Obi’s inclusion on the PDP ticket in 2019, stated, “Peter Obi does not even believe in the official Labour Party manifesto. He is more politically attuned to us in the PDP.”
The activist also touched on the nature of political relationships, saying, “There are no permanent friends or enemies in politics.” However, he added a personal note, mentioning death threats to his child and criticising Obi for allegedly remaining silent when this was brought to his attention.
In a strong statement, Omokri declared, “Peter Obi will NEVER be President of Nigeria, and we will fight to ensure that even if he returns to the PDP, he will NEVER get on our ticket.”
Omokri also expressed his intention to support President Tinubu’s policies that align with the PDP manifesto, stating he would do so “proudly and patriotically.”
These claims have not been independently verified, and as of now, there has been no public response from Peter Obi or the Labour Party regarding these allegations.
The statements highlight the ongoing political tensions and shifting alliances in Nigerian politics following the 2023 presidential election.
