Police Rescue Four Chinese Nationals And Two Officers From Kidnappers In Abia.

The Abia State Police Command, in a coordinated effort with the military and other security agencies, has successfully rescued four Chinese expatriates and two Nigerian police officers from the hands of kidnappers in the Uturu area of Isuikwuato Local Government.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, disclosed the development in Umuahia on Saturday, confirming that the victims were ambushed on 4 April 2025 while en route to their company in Agukwu-Amaya, Ndundu Community.

According to DSP Chinaka, the incident occurred around 5:30pm, when armed assailants launched a surprise attack on the convoy transporting the expatriates and their police escorts. Tragically, the attack led to the deaths of Mr Quan and Mr Cai, both Chinese nationals, as well as Insp. Audu Saidu, one of the escort officers. The attackers also made away with Insp. Saidu’s rifle.

Swiftly responding to the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer of Uturu Division led a joint operation involving the police, military, and other security outfits. Their efforts led to the successful rescue of three Chinese nationals unharmed, while a fourth expatriate sustained injuries. Additionally, Insp. Uba Ahmed was found with a gunshot wound to the leg.

Both the injured officer and expatriate are currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Abakaliki, and are said to be responding well.

As part of continued efforts, a tactical team led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) visited the crime scene on 5 April. During this phase of the operation, Insp. Ijeagwa Friday was also rescued unhurt through further collaborative efforts involving local residents.

Commissioner of Police, Mr Danladi Isa, condemned the attack and assured the public that the perpetrators would be tracked down and brought to justice. He also called on residents to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperative by reporting suspicious persons, movements, or vehicles to the nearest police station.

For immediate reports or emergency assistance, residents have been encouraged to call the Abia Police Command via the following lines: 08035415405, 08079210004, 08079210005, and 08079210006.

The operation highlights the strength of inter-agency cooperation and community support in confronting insecurity and restoring public confidence in the region.
