Police Arrest ATM Card Swapping Specialist In Katsina.
Katsina State Police have apprehended a suspected fraudster, Bishir Abdullahi, 37, for allegedly specialising in swapping ATM cards at cash points.
Police spokesperson ASP Abubakar Aliyu disclosed that Abdullahi was found in possession of 14 ATM cards belonging to different individuals. His arrest came after a police officer on duty noticed his suspicious behaviour near an ATM machine.
The officer, Inspector Aliyu Muhammad, detained the suspect at the First Bank branch in Tudun Katsira quarters, Katsina metropolis. A search of Abdullahi revealed multiple stolen ATM cards linked to various banks.
“Preliminary investigations indicate the suspect had been using these stolen cards to withdraw money from victims’ accounts,” ASP Aliyu stated.
Further inquiries revealed that Abdullahi had successfully withdrawn funds from six separate accounts across different banks, with total stolen sums amounting to approximately ₦2.7 million.
The police have assured that Abdullahi will face prosecution following the conclusion of investigations. Authorities have also urged the public to exercise caution and vigilance when using ATMs to avoid falling victim to such schemes.
