Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has urged governments and donor agencies to boost investment in Nigeria’s health and education sectors.
Speaking at Grimard College of Nursing Sciences in Anyigba, Kogi State on Tuesday, the former Anambra State Governor emphasized the importance of these sectors for national development.
Addressing nursing students, Obi stressed the need for focus and commitment to their education. He expressed particular concern about the training of nurses, citing their crucial role in primary healthcare delivery.
“As experts warn of a looming severe shortage of nurses, we must remain proactive by investing in their training,” Obi stated. He argued that such investment would not only meet domestic healthcare needs but also position Nigeria to export nursing talent globally.
Obi reiterated his consistent advocacy for increased government spending on health and education at all levels. He also called on donor agencies to support these critical sectors.
“Our investment in the future of our children is for the good of society and the progress of our nation,” the former presidential candidate declared. He linked these investments to his vision of building a “New Nigeria” that provides citizens with access to quality healthcare and educational opportunities.
The politician shared his remarks via his X (formerly Twitter) account, underlining his ongoing commitment to these issues beyond the campaign trail.
