The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has outlined key dates for its forthcoming national gatherings
According to the party’s latest announcement, the National Caucus meeting is slated for Wednesday, April 17, while the Board of Trustees (BoT) and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings are scheduled for Thursday, April 18.
The NEC, regarded as the supreme organ of the party, is mandated to convene at least once every quarter, as stipulated in the PDP 2017 constitution. It comprises a broad spectrum of party stalwarts, including state governors, the President, former presidents, principal officers of the National Assembly, state chairpersons, and other distinguished members.
Following the delay in convening the 98th NEC meeting, sparked by the suspension of the National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, governorship aspirant Segun Sowunmi took legal action against the acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, and other members of the National Working Committee (NWC). Sowunmi, backed by a formidable legal team, seeks Damagum’s removal for alleged negligence of duties.
Responding to calls from the PDP Governors Forum and its members, the National Working Committee (NWC) has announced the rescheduled NEC meeting, urging all members to mark their calendars accordingly.
The statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, emphasizes the significance of these gatherings in shaping the party’s trajectory.
