Ahead of the November 2024 governorship election in Ondo State, leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-West region gathered in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, to strategize and assert their commitment to reclaiming Ondo State from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The meeting, which was convened on Monday and attended by notable figures including Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, former Governor of Osun State, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, former Governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko, former PDP governorship candidate in Ondo State, Eyitayo Jegede, and former Deputy National Chairman of the PDP, Olabode George, among others, served as a platform for unity and solidarity within the party ranks.
Governor Makinde, addressing journalists after the meeting, expressed confidence in the PDP’s ability to secure victory in Ondo State. He emphasized the importance of a unified party front, revealing ongoing efforts to reconcile various factions within the PDP in the state.
Makinde stated, “All PDP leaders and stakeholders from across the six South-West states are behind the Ondo PDP candidate. Our candidate – His Excellency, Agboola Ajayi, is here, and the first step forward for us is to reconcile all the tendencies in Ondo State.”
Furthermore, the Governor highlighted the collaborative efforts between the PDP and other political parties, particularly the candidacy of Agboola Ajayi, as pivotal in securing a strong showing at the polls.
In a similar vein, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, stated the unity and democratic principles within the PDP, emphasizing the importance of inclusivity and reconciliation to bolster the party’s prospects in Ondo State.
Meanwhile, the PDP governorship candidate for the upcoming election, Agboola Ajayi, expressed gratitude to Governor Makinde, Governor Adeleke, and other party leaders for their unwavering support.
