PDP Governors’ Forum Congratulates Goodluck Jonathan On ‘Sunhak Peace Prize’ Award.
The Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum (PDP-GF) has congratulated former President Goodluck Jonathan on winning the prestigious 2025 Founder’s Sunhak Peace Prize (FSPP).
In a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja, the forum’s Director-General, Dr Emmanuel Agbo, conveyed the message on behalf of its Chairman, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State.
Mohammed described the award as one of the highest global honours, recognising individuals with outstanding initiatives in promoting peace and development worldwide. He commended Jonathan for his continued efforts in advocating for peace and democracy since leaving office in 2015.
Reflecting on Jonathan’s tenure as Nigeria’s president from 2010 to 2015, Mohammed highlighted his significant contributions to national development. He noted that Jonathan’s administration implemented impactful policies and projects across the country, including the historic rebasing of Nigeria’s economy. This achievement positioned Nigeria as Africa’s largest economy, surpassing South Africa and Egypt.
The PDP-GF chairman also prayed for divine protection for Jonathan and his family, acknowledging his leadership role beyond Nigeria’s borders.
Jonathan’s recognition by the Sunhak Peace Prize Foundation in Seoul, South Korea, makes him the first African leader and the third recipient of the Founder’s Prize. He joins the ranks of former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Sen in receiving the prestigious award.
The Sunhak Peace Prize Committee commended Jonathan’s commitment to democracy and peacebuilding, particularly his mediation efforts across Africa.
