Passengers on a journey in Zamfara State thwarted a kidnapping attempt by armed bandits, resulting in the death of one assailant and the seizure of two AK-47 rifles.
The incident unfolded along the Talata Mafara-Gusau highway, where the family of a bride-to-be, accompanied by other travelers, found themselves targeted by armed bandits. The bride’s family, en route to Kano for wedding preparations, faced a dire situation when the bandits ambushed their convoy.
According to an eyewitness account obtained by PRNigeria, the passengers were taken by surprise as gunshots rang out in the vicinity. Two armed bandits on motorcycles blocked the road, forcing vehicles to a halt. With guns brandished, the bandits ordered the bride-to-be, her parents, and two relatives out of their vehicle, coercing them into the nearby forest.
Sensing imminent danger, the passengers rallied together and launched a counterattack against the bandits. In a fierce struggle, they managed to overpower one of the assailants, resulting in his immediate demise. Despite one bandit fleeing the scene, the passengers successfully seized two AK-47 rifles abandoned by the attackers.
The passengers promptly handed over the seized weapons to military personnel stationed at a nearby checkpoint. However, one of the passengers succumbed to a sudden heart attack, attributed to the traumatic experience.
