The panel appointed by Edo State’s Chief Judge, Justice Daniel Okungbowa, to investigate allegations against Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu is set to commence proceedings on April 3rd.
George Odidi, the panel’s Administrative Secretary, confirmed that hearings will take place at the Judges’ Conference Room in the New High Court Complex, Benin.
Odidi emphasized that all concerned parties or their legal representatives must attend, with the complainant prepared to present their case.
The panel was reconstituted by Justice Okungbowa on March 25th after two members withdrew. Initially formed on March 22nd, Professors Violet Aigbokhaebo and Boniface Onomion Edegbai declined to serve, citing reasons related to the impeachment notice issued by the 24-member House of Assembly on March 6, 2024.
In compliance with Section 188 (5) of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria, the Chief Registrar of Edo High Court, Mr. B. O. Osawaru, announced the reconstitution of the panel through a press statement.
The panel, still chaired by Justice S.A. Omonua (rtd.), comprises Prof. Theresa Akpoghome, Oghogho Ayodele Oviasu, Dr. Andrew Oliha, Idris Abdulkareen, President Aighokhian, and Mariam Erakhoba Ilavbare.
