Ondo Youths Urge Governor Aiyedatiwa To Prioritise Governance Over Political Disputes.
A youth group in Ondo State, the Ondo South Youths Forum (OSYF), has called on Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to focus on governance and the development of the state rather than getting involved in political conflicts.
In a statement, OSYF emphasised that Aiyedatiwa has only four years in office and should prioritise legacy projects that will benefit the people.
The group also expressed concern over the conduct of some of the governor’s appointees, particularly members of his cabinet, who they accused of engaging in political battles at the expense of the state’s progress.
Call for focus and caution
OSYF coordinator, Kingsley Omogbehin, urged the governor’s aides to avoid dragging him into unnecessary political disputes, especially with influential figures within the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Dear Mr Governor, it is time to hit the ground running and distance yourself from distractions. You only have four years, and your impact on the lives of the people and your legacy projects will be what the people remember about you,” Omogbehin stated.
The group also criticised the ongoing conflict between one of Aiyedatiwa’s commissioners and a serving minister in President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
“We warn the commissioner to fight his battles alone and not involve the governor, thereby creating unnecessary enemies for him,” OSYF said.
Concern over appointees’ conduct
The group further condemned the behaviour of some of the governor’s appointees, accusing them of overstepping their roles by issuing political statements instead of focusing on their official duties.
“Some appointees are assuming the role of the Commissioner for Information by constantly releasing press statements from their offices. This is unacceptable. We are not a ‘Banana Republic,’” the statement read.
OSYF also warned against what they described as political sycophancy, reminding Aiyedatiwa’s aides of their past roles during the APC presidential primary in 2022 and urging them to focus on governance rather than personal political ambitions.
The group’s statement serves as a strong call for Governor Aiyedatiwa and his administration to prioritise development, stability, and effective governance in Ondo State.
