Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo had said during the commissioning of the presidential lodge at Osun State Government House in Osogbo on Sunday, May 12, that despite Nigeria’s complexity, effective governance is achievable with honesty and integrity.
Joined by Governor Ademola Adeleke and former governor Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Obasanjo emphasised the importance of leadership transparency and conscientiousness.
“In my experience, Nigeria is a complex country, but not inherently difficult to govern,” Obasanjo stated. “Similarly, one could argue that Osun State presents its own challenges, yet it remain manageable. The key lies in being true to one’s conscience, the people, and a higher moral authority.”
He lauded Adeleke’s leadership qualities, praising his dedication to both governance and joy. “Ademola Adeleke, my dancing partner, exemplifies integrity, honesty, and diligence,” Obasanjo remarked. “He understands the importance of infrastructure, particularly roads, in facilitating employment and economic growth.”
Adeleke, in turn, highlighted the significance of completing the VIP lodge, which had been left unfinished by the previous administration. “Under the leadership of Governor Aregbesola, this project had stalled at 35 percent completion,” Adeleke explained. “However, we resumed work three months ago, and today, we celebrate its successful completion, offering accommodations for five dignitaries and their entourages.”
The event underscored the importance of conscientious leadership and infrastructure development in fostering progress and prosperity within Nigeria and its states.
