The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has refuted claims circulating on social media regarding the posting of a corps member to the Oyo State Amotekun Corps, emphasizing that such deployment did not originate from the NYSC database.
In a statement issued by Ms. Christy Olatoye, Assistant Director of Press and Public Relations for NYSC in Oyo State, it was clarified that while the Amotekun Corps remains a respected organization, it is not listed among the employers in the NYSC database for corps member deployment.
“The attention of the NYSC Oyo state has been drawn to a story trending on the Social media of a corps member posted to Amotekun Corps,” Olatoye stated. “I want to set the record straight that it is the policy of the National Youth Service Corps to post Corps members to where they would be relevant and their services will be well utilized.”
Olatoye emphasized that the NYSC only posts corps members to employers listed on their database, warning against the portrayal of the scheme in a negative light.
“The National Youth Service Corps is a noble scheme that has served the nation for over five decades with notable achievements to our records,” she continued. “It is therefore not an organization that should be used as an object of prank.”
The NYSC reiterated its commitment to ensuring the welfare and proper deployment of corps members across the country and urged the public to refrain from spreading misinformation that could tarnish the reputation of the scheme.
