NPFL Signs Partnership Deal with La-Liga Club Sevilla.
The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has entered into a strategic partnership with Spanish football club Sevilla FC. This significant agreement was signed by NPFL chairman Gbenga Elegbeleye during his visit to the club’s facilities in Spain.
The partnership aims to provide expertise in various areas of sports development, with a particular emphasis on coaching education and nurturing young Nigerian talent. Elegbeleye highlighted the potential benefits for Nigerian football, drawing on Sevilla’s long-standing success in both Spanish and European competitions.
“We have 20 clubs in the Nigerian Premier League, and they all have their own youth academies. I know the history and track record of Sevilla FC,” Elegbeleye remarked during his visit. “This is a very good club which has won trophies in Spain and Europe for many years. I feel that, with their development strategy and their youth development programme, Nigeria can benefit.”
The agreement includes opportunities for the best players in the Nigeria Youth League to train at Sevilla FC each season. Elegbeleye expressed confidence that this experience will significantly enhance the players’ skills upon their return to Nigeria.
“We believe that the best players in the Nigeria Youth League will be able to come here every season to train. With your help and training, when they return, they can become better players,” he stated.
Additionally, the partnership features a coaching training programme, which is expected to be highly beneficial for Nigerian coaches. Elegbeleye described the arrangement as a “win-win” for everyone involved in the NPFL.
This collaboration marks a promising step forward in the development of Nigerian football, leveraging Sevilla FC’s expertise and resources to bolster the growth and success of the sport in Nigeria.
