Abdul Maikaba, the Head Coach of Kano Pillars, voiced his frustration with the officiating during his team’s NPFL match against Rivers United, which ended in a 1-1 draw at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.
Following the match, Maikaba criticized the referees for what he perceived as biased officiating and called for an investigation by the league authorities.
He stated, “I commend my players for their efforts tonight, but I urge the league governing body to scrutinize the actions of the referees. If they review the match footage thoroughly, they will understand what transpired. We should have secured all three points, but unfortunately, we only managed to secure one.”
Maikaba also acknowledged the importance of representing Nigeria in continental competitions but emphasized the need for fair officiating to encourage emerging teams.
He added, “While it’s commendable that our teams fly the Nigerian flag in continental competitions, unfair officiating could deter aspiring teams from showcasing their talent and representing the country. If this continues, it may impact Nigeria’s representation on the continent negatively.
