NPFL Club Owners Condole Late Hon. Ekene’s Family.
The Nigeria Premier Football League Club Owners Association of Nigeria (NPFL) has expressed deep shock and sorrow over the death of Honourable Ekene Abubakar Adams, the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Sports.
Chief Okey Kpalukwu, Chairman of the NPFL Club Owners Association, conveyed the condolences on Tuesday in Abuja, extending sympathies to members of the football community and the bereaved family. “The sudden death of Hon Ekene Abubakar is devastating. He was vibrant and full of life. Someone who lived for the beautiful game as a player and as an astute administrator. This is really sad. We pray that God grants the family he left behind the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” Kpalukwu stated.
Hon. Ekene, who represented the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency in Kaduna State, was only 39 years old at the time of his passing. His extensive background in football included roles as a former player, ex-General Manager of Kada City Football Club, and ex-General Manager of Remo Stars. His passion for sports continued into his political career, culminating in his appointment as Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Sports, despite being a first-time representative elected under the Labour Party in 2023.
Hon. Ekene’s death, occurring in the early hours of today, marks the second loss in the House of Representatives within a week, leaving the sports and political communities in mourning.
