The race for the top scorer’s gong in NPFL
The race for the Goal king award continues in the Nigeria professional football League, with some of the contenders showing prowess in front of goal last week.
The contenders are showing their class again has Enyimba forward, Victor Mbaoma shot to the top of the scoring chart with 15 goals after scoring an Hat-trick against Kwara United on sunday.
Mbaoma was, however, usurped at the top of the log by Rivers United’s Chijioke Akuneto on Sunday.
Akuneto scored twice as League leaders Rivers United comes from behind to defeat Abia Warriors 2-1 at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt.
The former MFM striker has now scored 16 goals, one more than Mbaoma. But it’s not yet over until it is over.
Also on Sunday, Gombe United striker, Yusuff Abdulazeez grabbed his 15th goal of the season, in the 5th minutes against Dakkada FC, with the match resulting to a draw at the end of the game.
Rivers United’s Ishaq Rafiu (14 goals) and Valentine Odoh of Abia Warriors (11 goals) are the other players in contention for the award.
Who will claim the Goal king award?
