NPFL Fixture Schedule Adjusted to Accommodate Rivers United’s Matches
The 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season is set to witness a temporary halt in fixtures following this weekend’s matches, as confirmed by the league’s organizer.
The upcoming match day 31 is scheduled to kick off on Friday with a match featuring Heartland FC and Shooting Stars.
However, Secretary of the club owners, Godwin Enakhena, revealed to Punch correspondent that all other fixtures will be put on hold to allow Rivers United to complete their outstanding games.
Enakhena emphasized that the decision to suspend other matches was collectively agreed upon by the league managers and received unanimous support from the club owners. This move aims to provide Rivers United with the necessary time and space to fulfill their remaining fixtures.
He highlighted the critical juncture of the league and the importance of ensuring fairness and completion of all games, especially during this crucial stage.
Enakhena praised the efforts of the Gbenga Elegbeleye-led NPFL board in managing the league despite facing various challenges.
“The NPFL board has a challenging task, and they are working diligently to ensure a league that we can all be proud of,” Enakhena stated, acknowledging the human challenges that the board is navigating. He expressed confidence in the board’s efforts, giving them a positive assessment for their commitment to the league’s success.
