Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), in collaboration with its Joint Venture partner Newcross Exploration and Production Ltd., has successfully recommenced operations at the Awoba Unit Field.
The field, previously shut down since February 2022 due to evacuation challenges and crude oil theft, is now back in action.
According to a press release issued by Olufemi Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer, since the restart on April 13, 2024, the Awoba field has been producing an average of 8,000 barrels per day (bpd).
Production is anticipated to escalate to 12,000 bpd within the upcoming 30 days.
Situated in the mangrove swamp south of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, the Awoba Unit encompasses OMLs 18 and 24. These assets fall under the management of the NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services (NUIMS).
NNPC Ltd. has been on a streak of production successes within its JV portfolio, significantly bolstering the nation’s overall oil output. In addition to the recent commencement of production at the Madu Field by the NNPC Ltd/First E&P JV, the company has achieved the restart of production at OMLs 29 and OML 18 in late 2023.
These fields have been consistently contributing an average of 60,000 bpd to the nation’s production since their revival.
Mele Kyari, Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., attributed this achievement to the conducive operating environment fostered by the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration.
He expressed gratitude to all stakeholders, including staff, operators, host communities, government security agencies, and private security contractors, for their indispensable roles in accomplishing this feat.
