NNL Super 8 Tournament Postponed to June 2024 in Enugu
The highly anticipated Nigeria National League (NNL) Super 8 tournament, initially set for May 23-30 in Enugu, has been rescheduled. According to Mr. George Aluo, Chairman of the NNL, the competition will now take place from June 7-14, 2024, at the same venue.
The decision to postpone stemmed from the scheduling clash with the President Federation Cup’s round of 32 matches. Mr. Aluo highlighted the importance of synchronizing the NNL’s calendar with the NFF’s to ensure smooth coordination and maximum participation.
Despite the change, preparations for the Super 8 are well underway, with all arrangements in place for a successful and fiercely competitive championship.
Mr. Aluo extended gratitude to Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah and Commissioner for Youths and Sports Bar. Lloyd Ekwerenmadu for their unwavering support in hosting the tournament.
The Super 8 tournament marks the culmination of the league season, determining the overall champion of the second-tier league and identifying teams eligible for promotion to the top-tier league.
Eight teams have already secured their spots in the championship: Nasarawa United, Sporting Supreme of Abuja, Sokoto United, El-Kanemi Warriors, Beyond Limit FC, Madiba FC, Inter Lagos, and Ikorodu United.
Conversely, several teams have been relegated to the National League One (NLO) following their performance in the NNL. Teams like Stormers FC, Ekiti United, and 1472 FC from Conference A, along with Giant Brillars, FC One Rocket, and Tradesafe FC from Conference B, are now gearing up for fresh challenges in the lower division.
