Students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, have mobilized efforts to raise a ransom of N2 million for the safe release of their kidnapped colleague, Miss Francisca Chioma.
The Lady, a student of the Science Education Department, went missing on April 5 while en route to attend a burial ceremony in Anambra State.
Reports indicate that Chioma’s disappearance has instilled panic and fear among her peers, friends, and family members, as all attempts to contact her proved futile. Chief Security Officer of the institution, Ken Chukwurah, confirmed the incident and disclosed that relevant security agencies have been alerted, including the Department of State Services (DSS).
According to Chukwurah, the kidnappers have established contact with Chioma’s family. Initially, the abductors demanded a hefty ransom of N10 million, which was later negotiated down to N2 million. The kidnappers have set a deadline for the ransom payment, adding urgency to the situation.
In light of the family’s struggles to raise the ransom amount, Chioma’s schoolmates and friends have launched a public appeal for support and donations. Taking to social media, one Collins C. initiated the call for assistance, emphasizing the urgency of the situation and the need for collective action to secure Chioma’s safe release.
Meanwhile, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, has urged the victim’s family, friends, and witnesses to come forward with any information that could aid in the investigation.
