Nigerian Military Condemns Calls For Coup, Labels It Treasonable.
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has issued a stern warning against calls for a military coup in Nigeria, labelling such actions as treasonable offences. This comes in response to a viral video circulating on social media, which encouraged the Nigerian military to seize power from President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
In a statement released on Monday by Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information, the military reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to upholding and advancing democracy in Nigeria. The statement emphasised the military’s loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government and reiterated that it remains focused on its constitutional duty of safeguarding the nation’s integrity.
The DHQ also called on the country’s security agencies to take decisive action against individuals or groups advocating for unconstitutional changes, stressing the importance of protecting Nigeria’s democratic structure.
