Nigerian Government To Launch Diaspora BRIDGE Platform To Boost Academic Collaboration.

On 28 July 2025, the Federal Government of Nigeria will unveil the Diaspora BRIDGE Platform, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at connecting Nigerian academics and professionals abroad with universities and research institutions across the country. The launch, to be presided over by Vice President Kashim Shettima and Education Minister Dr Maruf Alausa at the State House in Abuja, is set to commence at 10:00 AM, marking a significant step towards enhancing Nigeria’s education sector through global collaboration.

The Diaspora BRIDGE Platform, an acronym for Bridging Research, Innovation, Development, and Global Engagement, is a digital tool designed to foster partnerships between Nigerian diaspora experts and local tertiary institutions, including universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and research bodies. By enabling diaspora academics to register their profiles and highlight their areas of expertise, the platform will facilitate direct collaboration, virtual mentorship, and knowledge exchange. This initiative is part of the Federal Ministry of Education’s broader strategy to boost research output, strengthen institutional capacity, and position Nigeria as a hub for global academic innovation.

Dr Maruf Alausa, the Honourable Minister of Education, emphasised the platform’s potential to address brain drain and harness the expertise of Nigerians abroad without requiring their physical return. “This is a strategic move to tap into the wealth of knowledge our diaspora holds, fostering innovation and mentoring young scholars,” he stated. The platform will incorporate advanced tools for virtual collaboration and academic matchmaking, ensuring seamless interaction between diaspora experts and local institutions.

The initiative has garnered widespread support, with stakeholders noting its potential to elevate Nigeria’s higher education sector. Posts on X reflect enthusiasm for the project, highlighting its role in strengthening research and academic excellence. The launch comes at a time when Nigeria is intensifying efforts to integrate its diaspora into national development, with similar initiatives in health, finance, and technology sectors gaining traction.

As Nigeria prepares to roll out this transformative platform, the government is optimistic that it will not only enhance educational quality but also inspire further diaspora-driven contributions to the nation’s growth. The event is expected to draw significant attention from academic communities both within Nigeria and abroad, setting a precedent for innovative collaboration in Africa’s largest economy.
