Nigerian Forces Make Key Arrests In Borno And Delta Operations.

Nigerian security forces have achieved significant breakthroughs in their ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and maintain public order, with notable arrests made in Borno and Delta states.

In Borno, troops from Operation Hadin Kai apprehended a Chinese national alongside five others during a counter-terrorism operation conducted between 5 and 7 June. The operations targeted suspected terrorist collaborators in Kukawa and Ngala Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Borno, as well as Geidam LGA in Yobe. Major General Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, confirmed the arrests during a press briefing in Abuja on Friday. The Chinese national, who claimed to be a miner, is currently in custody and undergoing interrogation to determine their involvement in terrorist activities. Kangye noted that the arrests follow closely on the heels of the capture of four Pakistani nationals in the region, who were allegedly involved in training terrorists. The military remains committed to transparency and will provide further details once investigations are complete.

Meanwhile, in Delta State, the police have arrested two men, Patrick Junior Asini, 34, and Tega Ojo, 20, after a viral video sparked public outrage. The footage showed the pair smoking a substance suspected to be marijuana while seated atop a police patrol van marked “Nigeria Police Force Anti-crime Patrol, Oghara Division.” One of the suspects was seen making obscene gestures at an officer, while a voice in the background mocked the police and requested more marijuana. The Delta State Police Command swiftly took action, recovering drugs, laptops, and army gear from the suspects. The arrests underscore the police’s commitment to addressing misconduct and maintaining public trust.

These operations highlight the Nigerian security forces’ resolve to tackle both internal and external threats. In Borno, the military’s efforts are part of a broader strategy to dismantle terrorist networks, with Kangye reporting that several terrorists were neutralised, arms recovered, and three kidnapped victims rescued during recent missions. In Delta, the police’s prompt response to the viral video demonstrates their determination to uphold discipline and professionalism.

The Defence Headquarters and Delta State Police Command have urged the public to remain vigilant and provide actionable intelligence to support ongoing security efforts. As investigations into both incidents continue, authorities have reaffirmed their dedication to fostering a safe and secure environment for all Nigerians.
