Amid ongoing protests across Nigeria, the Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors has issued a stern plea to demonstrators, urging them to refrain from vandalizing property, including assets belonging to distribution companies.
The appeal comes in response to escalating incidents of violence recorded since the protests commenced on August 1.
In various states such as Kano, Borno, Yobe, and others, reports have surfaced of vandalism and destruction of public and private assets.
Particularly notable was the recent attack on the Information and Communication Technology Centre in Kano, which protesters set ablaze, just days before its scheduled commissioning.
Sunday Oduntan, the Executive Director of Research & Advocacy at Discos, expressed deep concern over the destruction witnessed during previous protests, referencing the #EndSARS demonstrations.
“There was a lot of damage during the last #EndSARS protest. We cannot continue to destroy our property in the name of protest,” he said.
